Apple’s iOS 9 is coming, and among its enhancements is an improved Spotlight search. We’ve optimized Flipboard for iOS 9 so you can use Spotlight search for everything you follow on Flipboard. That means finding your favorite magazines, topics and stories faster. Quickly reference anything you follow to curate your magazines more efficiently.
The more you use Flipboard and search for your subscriptions in Spotlight, the more they’ll be surfaced there.
We’ve also implemented universal links, which allow links shared from Flipboard to launch inside the Flipboard app instead of Safari. If you have a registered account this will allow you to like the item, flip to save it into a magazine and share with your social networks.
Last month we adopted the iOS system share sheet to house sharing options and maintenance features, like tuning your Flipboard and reporting content.
Tap and hold an article or magazine in-app to reveal the share sheet.
Within the share sheet, tap and hold icons to drag them into whatever order that you want. You can access the full list of apps by tapping on ‘More.’
For iPad users, we’ve added fine-tuning for your Cover Stories as well as the Compose feature.
Tweet us @Flipboard to tell us how you like our iOS 9 update, we’d love to know! Follow our Apple iOS 9 launch magazine on Flipboard for the latest news.

My name is Kristen Hess, NYC food stylist/photographer and author of The Artful Gourmet food blog.
My love of food and cooking led me to dive into the world of food styling and food photography, start a food blog back in 2010 and pursue a career in the culinary arts.
I use Flipboard as a starting point for my day to catch the top trending stories and news, as well as inspiration and ideas for cooking, recipes and food news.
I enjoy reading on Flipboard because it’s all in one place and is connected to my friends so I can see what they’re posting as well. I also love the interactive “flipping” of articles, just like reading a printed book or magazine, and how I can organize them in categories for easy access to read later.
The first few sites I read in the morning are The New York Times (especially the food section!), Yahoo (for news, food and email) and Facebook (to see what’s going on with friends and peers in the food industry).
The best article I read all week was “Photographer Turns Mundane Water Droplets into Works of Art” by Exposure Guide. This is fascinating! A German photographer, Heinz Maier, experiments with super macro photographs of water droplets in a series—and the images are just downright beautiful and amazing! It’s such an inspiration to see other people out there doing beautiful work because they love doing it. And his technique is so simple but the results are out of this world.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is food and cooking, of course! And photography. I love to see what’s new and cool in the industries I’m involved in.
A great magazine I’ve found on Flipboard is The Future of Food Collection. I love this metazine because it has some really cool magazines within it, with topics related to food and trends and what’s hot right now: The Sous Vide Life, Pop Up, Food Art (I especially love this magazine because I’m a food stylist and there’s some really cool food art going on around the world!), 3-D Printing Food, The Future of Food, etc. It’s not just another recipe collection, but provides interesting and new content in the culinary world around food trends and what people are doing differently to move the industry forward and make people more aware of food safety and sustainability.
My biggest influence is other chefs, food bloggers and photographers that I admire. I really like Giada de Laurentiis and Ina Garten because I like the simplicity of their recipes which are healthy and easy to make, everyday favorites.
A food blogger I really like is What Katie Ate (Katie Quinn Davies), because she has a similar background to me: going from being a graphic designer to food blogger and photographer and following her passion for food. She also has beautiful styling and photography that I love, which inspires me. I also look at other food sites and professional food stylists and photographers for ideas and inspiration to see what’s trendy and what other artists are doing out there in my field.
My “media diet” includes social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram) as a starting point to see what’s going on with my peers and in the industry—and Flipboard to catch up on the top news and stories of the day.
Occasionally I watch the news and talk shows and food shows on TV, but that’s usually late at night after my work is done, or if during the day, background media for listening while I’m creating my latest culinary creation, food photo shoot or blog post.
A unique productivity tip of mine is to do all my reading online first thing in the morning with a big cup of coffee. I find that if I get at least a half hour out of the way to discover the day’s top stories and topics of inspiration that I can get my day started with some fresh ideas and creative thinking. This also helps me not get too distracted all day surfing the Web while I’m trying to get my work done. Flipboard is great because all the top stories and news are right there and I can organize my articles and magazines all in one place, which keeps me focused throughout my day.
Check out all of Kristen’s food and photo-related magazines on Flipboard.

Publisher Spotlight: The Wall Street Journalhttps://in-id.about.flipboard.com/inside-flipboard/publisher-spotlight-the-wall-street-journal# of Flipboard Magazines: 15
# of articles flipped: 727
Best Magazine Titles: “ Keywords: Ideas in tech” and “A-Hed: Quirky Reads From The Wall Street Journal”
Most Liked Articles: “Want Great Longevity and Health? It Takes a Village,” “Why Children Need Chores” and “What the World Will Speak in 2115”
Interviewee: The audience development team (Carla Zanoni, Sarah Marshall, Gabby Stern, Kevin Sintumuang, Leigh Kamping-Carder and Annie Hill)
What do you hope to accomplish through your Flipboard Magazines?
The Wall Street Journal has been on Flipboard for a while, teaching us more about our reader’s habits while allowing us to reach new audiences. The Flipboard Magazines we recently launched demonstrate the breadth and depth of our reporting.
For example, we’ve enjoyed making collections of articles around core topics, such as our analysis of the Greek debt crisis. We’ve brought together some of our popular columnists, from Yaroslav Trofimov on the Middle East to our weekly tech column Keywords, from Christopher Mims, and have been archiving content around themes, particularly visual features on design (like midcentury modern).
We’ve also published a Flipboard Magazine that shows the quirkier side of WSJ. Known as the A-Hed, the column has appeared on the front page of The Wall Street Journal since 1941.
As the media landscape has changed, how has your consumption of information changed?
The team who worked on this project is a diverse team that has a variety of experiences and reading habits within the newsroom. The audience development department, led by executive emerging media editor Carla Zanoni, spearheaded the initiative with social media editor Sarah Marshall managing the project. Editors Gabby Stern, Kevin Sintumuang, Leigh Kamping-Carder and Annie Hill curated the magazines. That’s what has made this collaborative initiative so exciting, as we are all able to contribute different perspectives on what we believe our readers want to read.
Can you take us through the Journal’s editorial process, from a story idea to its publishing?
One incredible thing about the Journal is the sheer breadth and depth of coverage. Like any other news organization, there’s a process whereby reporters pitch stories or news breaks and they respond.
Having a network of reporters on each continent (49 bureaus worldwide), plus a process of commissioning editors who encourage the stories that are less frequently told, we report from places that are out of reach for most news outlets.
The following example, written by a duo on the ground in Chad and Nigeria (Michael M. Phillips and Drew Hinshaw), has one of the strongest opening lines to a story so far this year: “Falling prices of cows and the rising cost of diapers in Chad have turned the tide in neighboring Nigeria’s six-year war with Boko Haram.”

My name is Joe Toohey and my love of storytelling led me to working at NBC News.
I use Flipboard as a major news source / time waster / interesting stuff finder.
I enjoy reading on Flipboard because it covers everything. I can be reading an article about the 2016 presidential race and one flip later I’m reading about oceans underneath one of Jupiter’s moons. I’m always able to find interesting, different stuff.
The first few sites I read in the morning are Twitter to see what’s happening. I then go to the NBC Political Unit’s morning newsletter called First Read. Throughout the day I’m always on The Verge, The New York Times and Washington Post, and I probably spend too much time on tech, camera and Apple rumor sites like Re/code, PetaPixel and 9to5Mac.
I follow my family and girlfriend on Flipboard. But more than individual people, I follow a ton of magazines about DSLR video, lenses and, since I’m now a cat-owner-by-proxy, I follow cats.
The best article I read all week was this one about an “impossible” rocket drive that could get to the moon in four hours, Mars in 70 days and Pluto in 18 months. That’s pretty cool.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is easy: space and cameras.
My biggest influence is my parents. They’ve done it right and I’d be lucky to be as happy as they are in life.
My “media diet” includes all hours of NBC News programming, of course—and a lot of Netflix.
A unique productivity tip of mine is no such thing as too much coffee, always write things down—you’ll always be better off—and Evernote.

What drew you to Flipboard?
Curiosity is my middle name. It couldn’t be any other way. I’m a cat lover and was probably one in another life.
Flipboard was an easy connection for me to make. I was attracted by the large, crisp photos in many of the magazines created by the members of the network: in my line of work photos are everything. Many of my clients share the details of how they discovered me and connected with my creations. That’s something only a photo can do. I found it easy to set up shop on Flipboard and organize my things, and by doing so discovered a world of beauty and creativity, which is what I am all about.
What are you using Flipboard for?
I use Flipboard to collect and organize my wedding cake toppers and I absolutely love the way Flipboard lays them out on both desktop and smartphone.
What’s your favorite thing about Flipboard?
The unique layout is certainly one of my favorite aspects about Flipboard; it somehow makes your collection of articles and images look even better when you look at them, flip after flip, on any device. I think Flipboard is a place where people come to find “special” content. Thanks to Flipboard, I have discovered some fantastic sites that are not mainstream, which I enjoy visiting every day.
What’s your favorite magazine by someone else on Flipboard?
Being born in Sydney, the magazine Australia by David Gonzalez Bravo Stalder captures the essence and the spirit of Australia through some truly stunning photos. Of course, I (also) follow the kittens topic!
Amy Vernon is a journalist, digital news consultant and leading member of the Flipboard Club. Today she is the CMO and co-founder of Predictable.ly, a predictive analytics platform for news publishers and content producers. Thanks to Gabriella Sannino for serving as translator for this series of interviews. Gabriella is an Italian citizen who grew up in the Middle East. My name is Richard Carter. I am a writer and photographer based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, just a few miles across the moors from Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights.
My love of nature, science and history led me to write my first book, On the Moor, which examines the stories behind the things I encounter on my regular walks on the local moor.
I’m also an avid reader of ‘nature writing,’ both in books and online. I follow many like-minded readers and writers via social media, and publish some of my own nature writing and other articles on my website, richardcarter.com, and on my Facebook page. You should check out my articles; some of them are pretty good.
I use Flipboard to share the many wonderful articles about the natural world that I read online each week. I share them in my Nature Writing magazine. From time to time, I also use the magazine to shamelessly plug a few of my own articles.
I enjoy reading on Flipboard because it feels like a traditional glossy magazine, but customized with exactly the sort of articles I most enjoy reading.
The first few sites I read in the morning are my Twitter lists of nature writers and science historians, which I subscribe to via Flipboard. This allows me check what I’ve missed overnight. I then usually check out a few of my favorite photography Flipboard Magazines, including The Aperture Collective, and Lens Culture.
The best article I read all week was the always excellent Mark Cocker’s Guardian Country Diary piece, “Flight of the falcon.” The Guardian Country Diary column is over 100 years old, providing 300 words of tranquility in a hectic modern world.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is photography. I’m a very keen photographer. The Flipboard interface is ideal for displaying articles containing lots of inspirational photographs in a distraction-free way.
A great magazine I’ve found on Flipboard is Lightroom Secrets. Adobe Lightroom is the must-have application for serious photographers. It’s packed with powerful features. This magazine explains how to make best use of those features.
My biggest influence is my hero, Charles Darwin. He showed us how to see the natural world in a new way. When I go for my walks on the moor, every living organism I encounter has been shaped by natural selection. Trying to see the world through Darwin’s eyes was a major factor in my decision to write my book. In 1994, I founded the Friends of Charles Darwin, who campaigned to have Darwin celebrated on a British bank note. Although he finally appeared on the £10 note in November 2000, we continue to take on new members (for free) and have a very active @friendsofdarwin Twitter account and Facebook page.
My media diet includes Twitter lists, RSS feeds (via Feedly), podcasts, Facebook pages, and the BBC News and Guardian websites. Particular favourites include Thony Christie’s notoriously grumpy Renaissance Mathmaticus history of science blog; my friend Julian Hoffman’s nature blog, Notes from Near and Far; the phenomenon that is the Caught by the River website, and the Merseyside Skeptics Society’s podcast, Skeptics with a K.
A unique productivity tip of mine is to set up a private Flipboard Magazine in which to save articles for reading later. I like to read my saved articles in my favorite armchair every Saturday morning, with a cup of tea at my side. It’s a great way to start the weekend. If, having read a saved article, I decide it’s suitable material for my Nature Writing magazine, I can then transfer it over with a simple click of the ‘+’ button at the end of the article.

My name is Rachel Davies and I am a vintage enthusiast, writer, marketer and owner of Old Soul Retro.
I’ve always had a love for anything vintage. As a child I tagged along with my parents to thrift stores, estate, garage and barn sales. It became a treasure hunt. I’m still hooked on the excitement I feel when finding a lost piece of history.
I use Flipboard as my own little time machine. I like scouring the Internet for interesting articles and photos from the good ol’ days and flipping them into my most popular magazine, Old Soul Retro.
The first article I flipped was an interview I did for my blog Old Soul Retro Times with Mad Men-style artist Jim Schaeffing. He worked for the famous Charles E. Cooper Studios in NYC during the 1950’s as well as Walt Disney.
What I enjoy about Flipboard is the opportunity it gives me to share my passion with others. I also like the fact that I have one place to find all my favorite things.
The best article I read all week was about Al Capone—I was shocked to discover that he started one of the first soup kitchens in America. He helped feed the needy during The Great Depression, serving over 5,000 men, women and children on Thanksgiving Day, 1930. Who’d a thunk it?
My favorite topic on Flipboard is anything Retro/Vintage. I also enjoy archaeology, science, natural medicines and alternative news.
An enlightening magazine I found on Flipboard is Messy Nessy Chic. I especially enjoy her series “Things I Found On The Internet.” She too enjoys searching for the obscure, unique websites that are out there.
My biggest influence is my mother. She inspired me with her creativity and taught me the importance of being my own person regardless of what others think. I dance to the beat of my own drum and I have her to thank for that.
A unique productivity tip of mine is not to sweat the small stuff. If I have something important I need to focus on, I make a list and do my best to accomplish it. I’ve learned from my patient husband that stressing out just makes things worse. Stay calm, focused and give it your all. I believe the best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.

My name is Jennifer Frye and I am passionate about creativity and expression in all forms.
Professionally, I’m part of a team that develops technology solutions for museums. I also create art and curate magazines on Flipboard.
I began on Flipboard as co-curator for The Moment Magazine along with Allan Bunch. Through The Moment, Allan and I share our collective interests and explorations in art, style, photography, design, travel, technology, food and music, mindfully focusing on the positive aspects of each.
I also curate magazines for my personal account that delve into particular areas within art and style that interest me.
I use Flipboard to connect with the experience and expressions of others, and Flipboard allows me to share those journeys with the world. Flipboard is a fascinating platform that has a unique way of leaving me with a wonderful feeling of connection with so many creatives. Flipboard informs, inspires and brings people together that would probably never meet otherwise.
One of my favorite magazines to curate at the moment is The Print Mix. The mag features bold collections of striped, plaid and printed clothing with a bit of art sprinkled in to keep things fun. It’s like creating an infinite digital collage!
My first personally curated Flipboard mag is Peace and Thread. I’m currently working on a few textile-based artworks, and Peace and Thread helps put my mind in that creative place when it’s time to stitch. I’m sure that some of my own work will land in Peace and Thread when the time’s right. I’m pretty excited to share a few of my ideas in the mag.
The best article I read recently was a really interesting article about Gucci’s new era, published by Dazed Digital. I was immediately crazy for the visual feast of prints, patterns, color and embellishment in Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection. It expanded my appreciation for the collection by sharing Alessandro Michele’s philosophies that influenced those spectacular designs.
I love flipping through the Contemporary Art topic for the endless selection of contemporary art that’s available on Flipboard. I really can’t say enough about the quality. Flipboard has somehow brought together a community of wonderfully expressive, artistic curators. MoMA need look no further than Flipboard for its next great curator.
A Flipboard magazine that has made my life better is the magazine of all magazines, #MagsWeLove. On any given day, with the Flipboard team’s expert curation, I am guaranteed to laugh out loud by mags like There’s Nobody Here But Us Chickens!, be awed by an intensely red dress in Colourzzz, get tips on growing my summer basil from Passionate Gardening, or learn the five things I need to know about everything from Five.
One of my biggest influences is legendary style icon Diana Vreeland. She embodies the idea that style and life are art and ours to create. Anytime I need some sagely advice on living artfully and passionately, I find myself, once again, googling for her fantastic quotes or watching The Eye Has to Travel, an amazing documentary about her life.
One of Diana’s quotes that really resonates with me is “There’s only one thing in life, and that’s the continual renewal of inspiration.”
To that end, I have a “media diet” that includes checking out over 100 mainstream and indie sources a day to uncover the best content related to contemporary culture, art, style, design, New York, Miami and Washington DC. Some of my favorite publishers include The Creators Project, Artsy, Colossal, designboom, Vogue, Style, Hypebeast, Cool Hunting, Untapped Cities, Citylab, Wired and Fast Company.
Instagram and a variety of Flipboard topics like Street Style, Street Art, Sculpture, Fashion Trends and Interior Design are also huge sources of inspiration for me that I can explore for hours at a time. Ultimately, I hope to pass my inspiration and excitement on to others.

Carlo Carletti is a professional wedding photographer born and raised in Tuscany, Italy. Carlo has won the “WPJA” (Wedding Photojournalist Association) award twice, in 2006 and 2009, and has been described as one of “the top 5 wedding photographers in the world” by JM Just Married Magazine. In 2013, Carlo published “Fotografie di Matrimonio,” a collection of contemporary wedding photos. When Carletti is not at a wedding, he’s probably somewhere in the Tuscan countryside shooting landscape photos.
What drew you to Flipboard?
Flipboard is what I call “the quiet side of social media.” Here I have found people with common interests who share a true passion for photography: no shouting or hustling—an undisturbed place where content creation is appealing and easy to make.
I find Flipboard to be a great way to collect and share everything that has to do with my passions and hobbies and, of course, my wedding photography work. I really like the magazine curating process: it’s well organized, offering clean layouts which are very important for a photographer.
What are you using Flipboard for?
I love that I can collect the best moments and shots of my wedding photography across Italy in one simple location and share with my friends and followers. Flipboard is especially effective for the creative arts. The magazine-curating process makes it very easy to assemble and share photos and memorable moments I have captured on camera over my years of activity.
What’s your favorite thing about Flipboard?
Without any doubt I love how easy it is to put together such beautiful magazines so quickly, thanks to the Google Chrome bookmarklet and via the smartphone app; and how easy it is to keep up with the magazines you follow and to update your own while on the go. The concept of “flipping” is simple and fun.
What’s your favorite magazine by someone else on Flipboard?
It would have to be World Photography News by Nicholas Goodden and Stewart Duffy. It has some really stunning shots from around the world and some very useful and interesting tips and articles which could keep you reading for hours at a time.
World Photography News by Nicholas Goodden and Stewart Duffy
What’s your top wish for new features on Flipboard?
I love fine art and poetry and [am] not technologically inclined, if you get my drift! Although I find technology fascinating, I am not native to it as the younger generations are. Flipboard features are ideal and offer the opportunity for me to reach out to the world and let my photos speak for me.

Nick Sickleton is an art director, a Forbes “30 Under 30” nominee and four-time Addy Award winner. With such diverse clients—including Hyundai, HGTV and Blackwing Pencils—he’s required to be a little interested in almost everything. He uses Flipboard to get up to speed. See how:
My name is Nicholas Sickelton—but nobody knows it’s originally spelled “Niklas,” which is the Swedish way to spell it.
My love of meeting new people and building relationships is most important in my career. Once you realize that you’re not the only one in the room who’s unconfident, it frees you to take charge.
I use Flipboard as my “go-to for everything” site. It’s my current affairs design catchup curated board of interesting things.
I enjoy reading on Flipboard because it’s a one-stop shop. It allows me to maintain one tab on my browser window as opposed to, say, more than 10. It’s also the best way to focus on the things I want to see.
The first article I flipped was “11 Resources for Typography & Lettering Lovers,” which I saved back in February of this year.
The best article I read all week was an article about these behind-the-scene shots from Tiananmen Square 26 years ago which showed film frames before and after the legendary shot. They were almost like a prequel and sequel to a classic movie that everyone’s seen.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is…I don’t know that I have an actual favorite. All the things I look at tend to mesh together. But for the most part it’s between design, fashion, photography, and health.
A particularly enlightening magazine I’ve found on Flipboard is ART. No matter what time of day, there’s always something to learn about art. Most of my ideas come from articles about past or current art.
My biggest influences are fine artists. Gustav Klimt is currently at the top of the list. I’m trying to find ways to incorporate the line work of his sketches into my photography and design —meshing a bit of history with modern tech.
I find new information by using the Explore feature on Flipboard. Once I’ve exhausted a page or topic I know that I can find 100 more boards to follow with new relevant information.
A unique productivity tip of mine is doing something that has nothing to do with the task at hand. In some cases, the times I’ve been most productive are the times I’m wandering around a mall or went driving somewhere. The morning is also an inspirational time for me. I’ve realized that I usually don’t physically say a word until I get into work. It creates a space for internal thoughts.
Check out Nick’s magazines on Flipboard.
